וְעוֹד זֹאת הָיְתָה יְרוּשָׁלַיִם יְתֵרָה עַל יַבְנֶה,
שֶׁכָּל עִיר שֶׁהִיא
רוֹאָה
וְשׁוֹמַעַת
וּקְרוֹבָה
וִיכוֹלָה לָבֹא,
תּוֹקְעִין.
וּבְיַבְנֶה
לֹא הָיוּ תוֹקְעִין
אֶלָּא בְּבֵית דִּין בִּלְבָד:
And this too Yerushalayim had over Yavneh:
any city that
sees it,
and hears it,
and is near,
and is able to come —
they blow there.
But in Yavneh
they would not blow
except in the beis din alone.
