וּמֵאַיִן הָיוּ מַשִּׂיאִין מַשּׂוּאוֹת,
מֵהַר הַמִּשְׁחָה לְסַרְטְבָא,
וּמִסַּרְטְבָא לִגְרוֹפִינָא,
וּמִגְּרוֹפִינָא לְחַוְרָן,
וּמֵחַוְרָן לְבֵית בִּלְתִּין,
וּמִבֵּית בִּלְתִּין לֹא זָזוּ מִשָּׁם,
אֶלָּא מוֹלִיךְ וּמֵבִיא וּמַעֲלֶה וּמוֹרִיד
עַד שֶׁהָיָה רוֹאֶה כָל הַגּוֹלָה לְפָנָיו כִּמְדוּרַת הָאֵשׁ:
And from where would they light the beacon-fires?
From Har HaMishcha to Sartva,
and from Sartva to Grofina,
and from Grofina to Chavran,
and from Chavran to Beis Biltin,
and from Beis Biltin they did not move on from there;
rather, he would wave it back and forth and up and down
until he could see the whole golah — the Jews of Bavel — before him like a bonfire.
